Our aim is to restore and protect the iconic scenic tussock grassland and alpine landscapes of South Marlborough. The trust covers the large area (870,000 hectares) of Marlborough south of the Wairau River and extends from the foot hills behind Blenheim to the Clarence and Molesworth Station in the south.

By preventing the spread of wilding conifers, this community led programme will help to reduce the impacts on our tourism, pastoral farming, and viticulture industries. These industries are reliant on the tussock landscapes and river flows in South Marlborough.

If nothing is done and wilding conifers are allowed to spread, there will be further loss of our native biodiversity. Wilding conifers are infesting the alpine zone above the tree line and spreading within our indigenous forest. This spread has negative impacts on our ecosystems and recreation, reduces both cultural and historic values, and will ultimately increase the fire risk in South Marlborough.
