VOLUNTEER WILDING PINE CONTROL FIELD DAY - KEKERENGU MAY 2023

Thanks to Kevin Wilson who lead the XUM’s and wrote the below about the day!

1. An excellent result pulling wildling pines today with 2,170 deal to. Add that to the 800 pulled on Tuesday gives overall total 2,970.

The strategy was to attack the wildlings on several fronts at once. Two teams meet in the middle of cleared territory for a pic or two.

Doug, Eugan and Rob were still deep in enemy territory at another location at that time so missed the field pics.

2. I am very pleased to report that the XUM’s Class of ‘23 on the day passed two Level One Unit Standards towards a Doctorate in Extraction of Unwanted Material. Only 9 levels and 50 units to go.

Unit 1: Handling a Coffee and Scone adeptly.

Unit 2: Extracting at least 25 Unwanted trees less than 1.5m tall with perfect technique. I note the Unit Standard does not have an efficiency measure of trees/time period to avoid stress on candidates and help their well-being.
